To know me is to know that I really dislike “wise” memes that people tout as how people should live. “Wisdom in 160 characters” or “smart pictures” are my derisive names for this.
I don’t hate all of them, but we should be careful of how we interact with and and use them, I view them as a poster to remind us of something, but not a guide for how we should interact with and navigate through the universe.
I notice quite a few of them that suggest that we “grind in silence” and let the results speak for themselves. Or suggest that you have a better chance of being successful, or sticking to your goals by keeping them to yourself.
That sounds a bit crazy to me, let me explain.
Now: To be clear, I am not suggesting that you put ALL your business on the web or out in the streets. But I think when you are up to big things, you should speak about them.
Speaking what you are up to gives your idea and your game power. It allows other people to see what you are up to and maybe even inspire people towards the same ends, or…maybe..support you!
Some examples:
The Declaration of Independence was written/ratified on July 4th 1776. However note that the Revolutionary war was from Apr 19, 1775 ā Sep 3, 1783, note that this public declaration was written while the US was still under British Rule and put the lives of the authors of that document at risk. But putting that out there galvanized the people to create a country where they were no longer under the rule of a monarch.
On August 8th 1942, on the eve of the Quit India movement. Mahatma Ghandi called for determined, but passive resistance to their rulers, which led to the independence of a nation.
On December 1st, 1955, Rosa Parks declared that she would not give up her seat on a bus to a White man. This created a movement where a people took action and organized and empower themselves to “change the normal”.
On August 28th, 1963, Martin Luther King Jr stated his dream in Washington DC. This is, arguably, the catalyst to the United States being a far more inclusive country than it was for generations before.
My point: Words have power and speaking your vision can expand whatever game you want to play.
I (to the dismay of some) discussed my weight loss journey publicly and frequently. The resultant outgoing of support inspires me to continue the struggle, because the fight is not just mine anymore, it is mine AND everyone else who chooses to support me and may have moved others to a similar journey.
Sharing what you are up to makes the game bigger than you, it can create a shift that not only moves you, but can move the universe.
So share those work-out videos. Post those pictures of you in that shirt/pants/dress that you could not get into before. Tell YOUR world that you lost 5 pounds that week, share the upset when you don’t achieve your goal. (BTW: I have a few shirts that did not fit in May that fit just fine now)
By sharing your game, you may just discover this: You are not alone!
Which, I am going to assert, makes all the difference and, yes, keeps you moving!
