I am also excited to enter a new decade. Looking forward to new challenges and new opportunities. But there is work to do.
I begin by “reading” a poem on my wall “What I Live For” it ends with these words:
I live for those who love me,
For those who know me true,
For the Heaven that smiles above me,
And awaits my spirit too;
For the cause that lacks assistance,
For the wrong that needs resistance,
For the future in the distance,
And the good that I can do.
What inspires me is that if you read this poem it speaks to me of what that ideal world would look like and how I should live in it. We are a long way to being there, we can choose to remain idle and do nothing or we can get started NEWLY and work on the many wrongs that need resistance.
Will 2021 Be a better year? Not if we are not better people!
If we watch the ball drop and are not committed to being better people and fighting for a better world for everyone, then 2021 can turn into 2020 v2.
- The same hatred, divide and ugliness is still there.
- The same distrust of each other and our systems is still there.
- The same tolerance and acceptance of injustice as normal is still there.
- Oh and yes: The Virus is still there!
My mission in 2021
- Wrong that needs resistance: I intend to continue to fight the best I am able to make this a better world for our young African American men and boys, work to give them a voice they do not currently have and have them see and own their power that they do not yet know that they have.
- Cause that needs assistance: I intend to support healing the divide between black men and black women. I believe there is a desire for love and unity between us and we need to so what we can to eliminate the barriers to the expression of that. Healing that divide heals our families. Since the family is the building block of community, then healing that divide is a building block to an African American community that works.
Regardless of where you stand on ANY of this, I sincerely wish a blessed and prosperous 2021 for you and your families.
Here is my virtual hug to you and all of Humanity.
