Hello Readers: I must admit that for the first time in my life, I am genuinely afraid of where our country is headed.
Let me start with the questions I ended my last post of 2020 with
Will 2021 Be a better year? Not if we are not better people!
I stated this: If we watch the ball drop and are not committed to being better people and fighting for a better world for everyone, then 2021 can turn into 2020 v2.
- The same hatred, divide and ugliness is still there.
- The same distrust of each other and our systems is still there.
- The same tolerance and acceptance of injustice as normal is still there.
- Oh and yes: The Virus is still there!
Well, that’s exactly what has happened, and it’s arguably gotten worse
- One third of Americans now believe that violence against government is acceptable (giving certain conditions).
- Someone who crosses state lines to kill people who are protesting (or rioting) is a patriot, takes pictures with a former president and is up for jobs with several United States congress people and gets nominated for the highest civilian reward.
- People tried to invade our capitol to change the results of the election and there is a HUGE resistance from powerful people to even investigate from the same people who wanted Benghazi investigated endlessly.
- It is now perfectly ok to threaten to kill a congresswomen or president and suffer just a loss of a committee seat and a censure resolution. And likely may get to lead that committee in 2023.
- We have the vaccine, but won’t take it, mask up keep our distance because we want “freedom”, our hospitals are filled to capacity or we just don’t know what’s in it.
- Our democracy, which has been defended about 250 years is about to fail under a nice sounding phrase called election integrity.
- Our distrust of the system and each other has made the United States of America practically ungovernable, leaving opening for someone who can speaks of ORDER and not PEACE to take control of our country by guaranteeing safety and security.
- Oh and the virus is still out of control!
Our country, which many have hailed as the standard-bearer of freedom and democracy for 200 years is now in danger of becoming a failed democracy. I assert this because we (and the mainstream media) have stopped asking the questions that need to be asked by those who aspire to control our country.
- When people say they need to take their country back: Why don’t we ask and demand they answer: From Who?
- When people say Make America Great again: Why don’t we ask and demand they answer: When exactly did it stop being so great?
- When people say they won’t take the vaccine because they don’t know what’s in it: Why don’t we ask and demand they answer: Do you know what’s really in the sandwich you ate for lunch?
- When people (at a large televised rally) ask when do they get the guns out and they get to kill these people: Instead of a tepid and soft response Why don’t we ask and demand they answer: Who exactly are you suggesting should be killed?
- When people just keep attacking the vaccines and mask mandates as ineffective and a blow to freedom: Why don’t we ask and demand they answer: There are 800 thousand Americans dead. What’s YOUR plan to stop it?
- When they shout down programs and policies designed to make like better for working Americans: Why don’t we ask and demand they answer: Why don’t you have the same policies that you claim will be better for us in effect for you and your family? (Have them answer that after they leave the country club or getting off their private plane or stepping out of their Maserati)
- When people espouse horrible theories scaring people about what a diverse America will look like with more divergent people and opinions sharing power with the patriarchy: Why don’t we ask and demand they answer: What are you afraid of? People inflicting on you what you have inflicted on others?
- When people claim that a more updated, diverse and accurate version of history is divisive. Why don’t we ask and demand they answer: Are you afraid of a world where ALL the heroes don’t look like you? Do you fear your children will think less of themselves? How do you think other kids have felt learning a version of history where NONE of the heroes look like them? Isn’t THAT divisive?
- When politicians start claiming anything is unconstitutional: Why don’t we ask and demand they answer: What part of the constitution does this go against? Or is this your way of saying you don’t like it?
- When politicians claim voter fraud and stolen elections: Why don’t we ask and demand they answer: Why do you only claim that happened in the areas that did not vote for you?
Here is a key to a better world in 2022: Ask hard questions, demand rational and well thought out answers, if they can’t give you that, do not vote for them!
And operate with integrity: Do not be afraid to call a foul on your own team!
- Do that and you may be a bit more trustworthy even if we disagree on about everything else!
- Vote like that and we may be able to save our democracy!
THAT is and should be our #1 goal now.
I am guessing that the TRUE patriots who have given or risked their lives for this country are pulling for us to have America continue to aspire to be a great place for everyone.
Even the ones who do not think, look or love like they did!
