This message is for my brothers: Anyone else can “listen” in, but this is aimed right at my fellow melanated men!
Here is the first thing you need to get: Just about everything you have heard about us is a LIE!
- Our woman say we are disloyal and do not want to get married to them: This is a lie!
- They say we do not defend our women: Another lie!
- They say that we have NEVER been quality and stable husbands and fathers: Don’t believe that hype! In fact we are STILL there for our kids!
- Some think that just because we are male, we are part of the patriarchy: Again: Not True! Arguably we are the primary target of it!
- They say we are dangerous : This lie justifies our mistreatment!
Enough of who we are NOT, I want to connect you briefly to who we are!
Bottom Line: Most of what you listen to, dance to and just love about men, brothers either started it or made better!
We make the music.
- You like country music? Arguably we started that!
- How about Rock and Roll? Yeah, we got that too!
- To those who love classical music: Brothers had a hand in that!
- You listen to Jazz music: We definitely played a role in that and arguably invented it!
- The Blues? Well I don’t even need a link to prove that one, do I?
Sports? Really?
- Imagine the NFL without Black Players
- You would fall asleep before Brothers spiced up the NBA
- College Football: Well we made quite a few middle age White dudes very rich coaching our kids
- GOLF?: Well we already know who the best ever in this sport was and he made a LOT of other golfers rich too!
- Remember when everyone was all into watching the world series? If you are over 40, probably not. I don’t think it is a coincidence that decline in baseball viewership aligns somewhat with the declining percentage of black men in the game.
We are the ones everyone mimics: Just look around!
- They talk and act like us and THAT gets labeled cool and acceptable
- They dance and sing like us and become sex symbols and legends
- The dress like us and women swoon over them
- They know we preach the word better and know how to (sort of) do it like us
And…I did not even go into every field of human endeavor, like science, engineering, medicine…etc. I could literally write a LONG paper or a book on where men who look like us made the world that we live in now possible!
Let me be clear: We are NOT just the beneficiary of things of Western technology, we played a role in creating and shaping it too!
You see brothers, it is definitely arguable that we define what is cool in American (and perhaps GLOBAL) manhood.
We are…..like our women: Magical!
So my brothers it is time:
- Time for a revolution of the mind
- Time for a revolution of the spirit
- Time for us to redefine who we are for our community and ourselves
- Time for Unity and Brotherhood
- Time for us to love each other AND ourselves
Our revolution will not and should not be televised and while we will have lots of supporters who love us, we need to understand that we don’t really have many allies we can count on 100%!
Some days I wake up wondering if we have any allies at ALL!
Our revolution is ours and ours alone: And we need each other NOW more than ever!
