I think I will begin this post with what I ended with on the previous post.
Except thismessage is not just to the younger me, this is to all my fellow Black Men and (yes) also to our younger brothers coming up. Well, that one was too!
You are Gods creation and you are unique and special.
If you think you are not special, or think you are just ordinary remember this: Through out the history of the world there has never been anyone JUST like you and there will never be anyone JUST like you ever again. Some may look a bit like you, maybe talk a bit like you, but they are NOT You!
You were meant to be here, at this time, at this place and you have a purpose!
Find that purpose and make sure that it shows up in the world!
To my brothers, today we break the cycle of what the world says about us, because the world seems to only discuss Black Men with a national focus when three things happen:
- We get killed by a cop
- We play sports very well (No link needed here, too many to count)
- We do something terrible
Other than that, it seems to me that the world does not find us very interesting or inspirational.
I was about to draw a list of reasons justifying our existence and why we should be proud! But instead I will say this:
The same passion, energy and excitement we show when our girls and women succeed, we must NOW start showing when our BOYS and MEN succeed.
A lot of them feel left behind and that they are not necessary and unwanted and they are HURTING. This needs to end!
This is URGENT and is LITERALLY life or death!
Now lets get to what I really want to say
A few people have told me more than once that I “defend” Black Men.
I used to get unnerved by that and I am upset that some think we need to be “defended”, like something is wrong with us!!!
I will not be unnerved and I will not be restrained anymore!
Why do I say this, what is my upset?
Black Men only get talked about and focused on when they get shot by cop, play sports well or do something horrible
(Don’t believe me, just watch the media, social and otherwise)
If saying that and showing brothers some love means (to you) like I am defending them: So BE IT!!!
I will for one be on the Bandwagon for my Brothers. Will YOU?
So here is the declaration I hope my brothers (and sisters) pick up on:
- We are Kings
- We are Worthy
- We Belong
- Our Light Shines Bright!
Time to bring our light NOW and warm the village. Our people are waiting on us!
Lets TALK and Embrace our Men and Boys: This is OUR YEAR!!
