To set the tone: Let me share my thoughts from my visit to First African Baptist Church in Savannah Georgia
Hopefully after this you will be inspired to learn more about the history of our ancestors. I will let my video explain much of this.
The video says a lot, so here are some key points!
- We need to get rid of the notion that our ancestors were “slaves”, they were enslaved people (BIG difference!!!)
- Our history did not begin as Africans being slaves. We were civilized and powerful long before colonialization.
- Our ancestors got off the boat knowing how to build stuff that lasts!
- We need to understand that this is OUR country and our ancestors fought and died for this country before it was even a country and before we were even considered free and human!
- When some say that we (African Americans) built this country, this is an unacknowledged truth to that must not be ignored!
Below are some pictures I took of the monument in Savannah’s historic district. It was actually hard to get these pictures of just the monument as people of all ages and ethnicities surrounded this edifice.
See Below for pictures I took of the church

What really cool is that these two powerful historical monuments are right across the street from each other!
