Mahatma Ghandi famously said: “Be the change you wish to see in the world”. This is not only inspirational, but also demands an accountability. By that I think it means we can WISH for change and TALK about change, but to cause that change, we must BE someone different, and be willing to change ourselves.
I am working on new state of being for myself because who I know myself to be right now is not what I need to be to make the difference I am up to. That will not always be pretty, but nothing really worth achieving is easy. No more holding back anymore! This is my expression of what is in my heart and I am revealing it here.
What the blog is intended for
- Challenge the norm/conventions and ask questions that provoke thought, which hopefully will translate into positive action (mine and yours)
- Share thoughts and opinions formed through research and observation
- Share some things that will hopefully help you get through a day
- Trigger conversations and actions that matter
What are my key upsets/commitments
- The status of Black Men
- I am committed that the lives and relationships of Black Men work, and they get to live free, whole, happy and in an abundance of love!
- I am committed that Black men focus their considerable talents to work together and get that they are not alone
- I am committed that Black men get that they matter too and they are not what the world tells them that they are.
- We accept pretty window dressing conversations as a substitute for real change. No meaningful change is possible unless we are willing to be uncomfortable or mis-understood or have the courage to ask the questions that are necessary to be asked and answered.
- The seeming acceptance of our young people that “someday” they will have power.
- The status of Sports in Detroit, when will we have a good team??? I’ll take the Red Wings winning again and I am not a Hockey Fan. I’m getting desperate! (But probably won’t post about that here)
I intend this to be one of my contributions to the world, I hope that what I share here will be valuable to you.
